Does the Engine need to be running for the Brake Light to go out? (XJS V12)
Having been doing a rebuild of the Teves Braking System on my V12 XJS
I have also had to bleed the Brakes.
But does the Engine need to be running, before the Brake Light goes out, or should it go out with just the Ignition turned on.
There are a number of reasons why I don't want to start the Engine at the moment.
But the dashboard light in question, is the small round red one that looks like it has a brake shoe on each side.

Thanks RJ but I think your Car 'may' have a slightly different ie more modern brake actuator, than mine has.

OB,
I think that Ragjag is talking about the handbrake light not the light that you're referring to. The Red brake warning (not handbrake) light coming on is part of the systems test procedure. It needs the pump running to ensure the accumulator is built up to pressure. It can take 30 secs + to do this. To answer your question, you don't need the engine running for this to happen. If it builds up sufficient pressure, the light will go out without the engine starting.
Hope that helps.

Another mystery solved but I didn't want to let the Pump run for a long time, in case it burnt out.
