Door hinge replacement

Door hinge replacement
Hi,
I need to replace the top driver's door hinge on my '90 coupe as the door has dropped. It looks pretty straightforward according to the manual but is it? There seem to be shims shown between hinges and door / wing - do these come in different sizes to align door?
Can I support the door from underneath whilst open and remove / replace top hinge leaving bottom hinge attached or do I have to remove door completely?
Anyone now of sources for new hinges?
Thanks,
LeeP

The door hinges are studs, not bolts, so removal of one at a time will be difficult, if not impossible due to the amount of movement needed to get the door off the studs.
A completely empty door shell is an entirely reasonable weight for one person to lift, so if you can obtain a helping hand, consider stripping the door to replace the hinges.
Use a grease pencil and trace around the old hinges before removal. It won't be perfect on reassembly, but will get you in the ballpark.
There are shims, but the door to hinge alignment also allows for up and down plus in and out movement. Shims are used when there is insufficient adjustment in there.
