Hello fellow members,
In my attempt to pass CA smog...I would like some help decoding these two ECU units. The first one is currently in my 1996 XJS 4.0 6cyl as a temporary loaner from my mechanic. The second image is the ECU unit that was in the vehicle when I purchased it 3 months ago. My mechanic clams the original one was burned out by high amp surges from an aftermarket alternator installed by the previous owner. I just want to know what these ECU units came out of originally. Meanwhile, I am trying to purchase a functional ECU from the 1996 XJS 4.0 6 cyl

OP , I send a private message, but in case you missed it, I do have a ECU for a 96. A while back my ECU suffered from water ingress, as so many 94-96 ECUs do, and I got a few replacements. It has been several years since I replaced my bad ECU, and I made it water-tight, with lots of ECU connector grease and other precautions. I have had no further problems, so I may be willing to part with one of my back ups. This is what I have: it was tested and worked perfectly on my 1995 although production date says 12/02/1995
Another thought is you might contact XJR Engineer on the X300 list. He designed the ignition system of the 1995-97 XJ6 and XJR sedans and is able to reprogram these ECU's. He may be able to test and reprogram it for you, it's worth an inquiry.
