Hello again. Something I forgot to mention in my original Thread below. When applying the emergency brake - which works perfectly - the light will come on in the dash as normal. But once the brake is released, the light still stays on. The brakes releases correctly. Aften driving a short while, the light will eventually disappear. So, I think there is a "sticky" switch somewhere. Maybe by the emergency brake handle ? Thanks for any advise.
Again - 16 years difference between our cars - but on mine - the dash light is operated by a limit switch found on the back of the handbrake assembly. Very easy to get to on mine as I have very basic electrical circuits (no electric seats - or heaters, etc). A lot more difficult on yours
Mine is covered by a hard plastic part - maybe yours is covered by fabric and can be rolled up and limit switch squirted/cleaned that way?
Cheers
Steve
I just hold the button in and firmly lift the handle up and down abit to 'seat' it for lack of a better term but not cranking it up. Also don't do what I did and neglect to check gauge bulbs periodically lol...I must of driven off a few times with the E brake on before remembering the bulb was out.
Thanks for the pic. Yes, mine has a vinyl cover on it that looks like I can just roll up to get access to the switch. I can use an electrical parts cleaner. And, I have a spray lubricant that can be used on electrical parts. That's probably all it needs. I'll do this when the car comes back from the shop. Thanks again.
UPDATE My procedure for applying and releasing the parking brake was correct. The dash light would just stay on after release of the brake handle, but would eventually go out after driving a while. So I inspected the limit switch as mentioned above. Sure enough it was just "sticking" a bit. Used some electrical parts cleaner (that leaves a thin oil film) and that seems to have cured the problem. Thanks again for the help. This Forum is great.
