Engine number stamped on engine different from V5C
So, I recently purchased a XJS from UK and had it shipped to Singapore. Whilst I was preparing the car for inspection so that i can register the car, I realised that the engine number on the engine and the engine number in the V5C is different. The engine number in the V5C has an extra ‘0’.
Does anyone knows what is the engine number stamped on their engine?
And can the folks in UK verify it is same with their cars?
I did some search and it seems that the original engine number have only 5 numerals as the serial number. Greatly appreciate any advise. Thank you.
That is quite usual on many XJ-S V5s. Jaguar often submitted slightly inconsistent information to the DVLA, and they often inserted a leading 0 after the 8S suffix. Paradoxically the V5 for my own pre-HE has only the core 5 digits and doesn't have the 8S prefix or the suffix HA for the piston classifications. My Jaguar Heritage certificate does detail the full engine info.
So, it's really quite common. I've also seen lots of Jaguar XJ-S V5s where the engine prefix is detailed as 85 rather than 8S. Quality and detail wasn't necessarily high in the 70s and 80s!
If it's causing any issues for export, then just get a Jaguar Heritage Certificate for your car and then submit to the DVLA and get it changed.
