Is Exhaust Cement as good as Welding?
This is a Job I've been putting off for ages.
It looks as if some Garage/Shop may have done a bodge up, on the Exhaust before I bought the Car (many years ago) but now its starting to blow a bit and I would like
to fix it, before her MOT which is due soon.
So what I was thinking of doing, was to cut out that pile of Junk and then join the Tubes back together using a Sleeve.
If I try and Mig it, then there is every chance it might burn through, so I was wondering if I could buy some stuff to Cement it together and then maybe clip it as well.
I am planning to get a new down pipe but I want to wait until my Car lift is Free, because otherwise it will be a difficult job to do without proper access.
Is there any Exhaust Cement that you can recommend, that sets 'Rock Hard' and would be as good as Welding.

As a temp repair, OK.
If the sleeving is a tight fit and the "cement" is used as an assembly aid, could be better.
I used to use Holts Firegum, Made in UK I think???, back in the MK7 days, when money was none existant. Worked for me until the next time.
Nothing beats welding.

Yes you guessed right, I was planning to use the Cement, as an assembly aid with a couple of Clips.
But I may have to have a rethink, as I don't want that Pipe dropping down and digging into the road, if it all falls apart.

Invitation for a lot of smart *** answers, because no one "welds" a cage together with exhaust cement or "welds" up a bracket with JB weld.
lol at the fking hose clamp, my car had one on its exhaust when I bought it.
If you straight cut the pipes, you should be able to use a sleeve with some sealant to temporarily make this work until a new pipe comes in. I'm not sure I'd bother with a "cement" because it will be a pain later on.
Muffler cement is like an epoxy that dries hard and is usually used to fix holes. You just want a sealant. I've seen regular old high temp RTV used countless times, but there may be some better at the store.
Then again if you get a slotted sleeve to go over both end that you can use the proper clamps on, it should already be a tight enough fit that a little sealant will go a long way.

Slotted Sleeve, that's a great idea! with a bit of sealant and a couple of good Clamps.
At least as a temporary measure, until I get a new pipe.
