Exhaust manifolds repair
#1
#2
I just had my arm up inside a 92 yesterday to replace exhaust manifold gaskets.
Based on what is probably rusted together, undo the clamp between the second catalytic converter and the mid pipe. Undo the olive joint between the first muffler and the suspension exhaust over pipe. The you can flex the pipe and second muffler together and wiggle it off the second cat.
Now get that second cat off. It’s stainless so no rust problems there.
First cat is the bitch. The three rear manifold to down pipe/cat nuts are best attacked from below. I used some long extensions, a flexible joint, and an air powered impact gun. The important thing is to keep the angle of the flex joint as straight as possible so you don’t break a stud. The forward nut is accessible from the engine bay. Remove the air cleaner assembly and you’ll get at it no problem.
Have fun!
