Facelift Convertible Side Repeater Lights Solutions And Rear Seatbelts
Dear all
I have a US spec 1994 XJS 6.0 convertible which is in the process of being imported into the UK. The car has failed the MOT test as part of the import and registration process for two reasons:
1. the lack of side repeater (indicator/turn signal) lights
2 the lack of rear seat belts
i am several thousand miles from the vehicle and the related documentation which does not help.
My understanding is that the car never had side repeater lights fitted. One of the attached photos shows the car as I purchased it 18 months ago or so with leaper logo blanks over the side repeater holes behind the front wheels. Another picture shows the revised look after I have removed various trim and the high level rear brake light to achieve the aesthetics that I prefer. Please also note a third photo which shows the shape of the hole that the blank covered plus some sticky residue.
it appears that the shape in the wing does not match with either the earlier or later side repeater light fittings. Given that I have no choice due to regulation to install side repeaters does anyone have a lead on solution used by others that avoid drilling or cutting metal?
Given the seatbelt issue can anyone advise if seatbelt mounting points are already likely to be in the vehicle? Also does anyone have a way to confirm the interior colour from the VIN please? It is likely to be magnolia and is detailed in my documents that I cannot currently access. I prefer to ensure I source the correct colour belts…
Many thanks
Pierre

The North American exports did not have the repeater lamps ---as seen in the illustration below:

There should be anchor points for rear seat belts if the car was built with rear seats, yes.

There's also a yellow side reflector/light on the front bumper. That CAN be made to flash. Right now it only comes on with the headlights, no flashing with direction signaling. There's a guy who explained what needs to be done, and he sells the components to make that work. Contact him at danielsternlighting.com
I don't know why it shouldn't be as simple as connecting wires over to that area from the front blinker bulbs. There's clearly a light already there, it just needs to blink when you want to make a turn. Should be easy enough.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a light where that Jaguar logo goes.

Side wing indicators were a standard fitment on facelift XJSs. I think they were only deleted for USA / Canada for some reason. The hole behind the leaper badge is a standard hole for the fitment of the standard indicator. See the picture of my car for fitment.
If the wiring is behind the wing on a US car, it's easy to find good used XJS indicator fitments on ebay for about Ł10. Search for LNA4812AA or LNA4812AB
If the wiring isn't there, it's probably easier to spur off the front bumper indicator and use the front bumper side light as an indicator. That will also satisfy UK MOT legislation.
I'm surprised the rear seat belts aren't there, unless it's one of the extremely rare late 2-seater cars that has subsequently had a rear seat installed but no seat belts. However, the captive nut mounts for the seatbelts will be there on your late bodyshell, so you can just fit a set of belts. Let me know if you need any photos of the fitment.
The seat colour won't be magnolia as that was discontinued but is likely to be cream. The code is on the id panel above LH headlight inside the engine bay on UK cars, but I think might be in the door jamb on US cars? Cream is trim code NDR. The seatbelt colour is a contrast colour unless a bespoke build spec. It is likely to be barley if you have Cream seats. If you tell us your interior trim code from your id label and post a pic of the seatbelts, I can probably tell you what colour they are.
Cheers

Thanks for all the responses. I dug back through old photos and the car definitely has rear belts. It failed on the lack of belt buckles not belts and I assume they are down the back of the seat. I would have hope the tester would have bothered to look.
there is no wiring in situ for side repeaters as they were never fitted. The front side markers seem like a good option. I’m waiting to hear back from the importers…
