Default Facelift Frontend Lift

Gentlemen,
I am the proud owner of a '95 XJS convertible wit the 4.0 engine. I've owned the car for three+ years and am just fed up with the height of the nose. Seems she won't go up any driveway with more than a 20 degree incline withoutdragging that fragile nose of hers. I've repaired her nose more often than I like to remember.

Consequently, I'm searching for a way to lift the frontend by at least an inch & a half to hopefully correct the problem. The front top of the wheel well sits at abot 26" while the rear is at 27". She rides on a set of 17" 95-97 XJR rims w/50 series tires.

I've had a couple of suggestions for lifting the springs ranging from a couple of 1/4" Jaguar spacers under each side to going to coil overs. I like the coil over suggestion but don't know where to get them for this car. Any suggestions or ideas anyone who has been able to correct this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Earl,

You might just want to buy new springs? Post #14 will show you what your modification would make the car look like?

Depending on how much increase you want I'd buy item #13 in the illustration below

Damper Assembly and Spring-Front-4.0 Litre - Parts For XJS from (V)179737 to (V)226645 | Jaguar Classic Parts UK

Each spacer is .125" thick and yields a .375" change. So, for example, installing 3 per side would give you about a 1.1" increase in ride height.

If that isn't enough you'll have to take your chances with new springs

Cheers

Doug,

Hello Old Friend! I see we have both migrated to a new home! Thanks a ton for the information on the spring packings. I have 4 in the trunk & will order an additional package of two so that I can even out both sides with three. Using the calculations you so kindly provided, that should give me a 1 & 1/8" lift. That will certainly go a long way toward alleviating the problem.

Thanks again,
Earl Kiker

Earl Kiker ! I'll be darned !

Always nice to see an old friend.

As for the spacers, one caveat just dawned on me:

There is only room for so many spacers. I don't know what the number is but if your car already has several installed you might not have room for more. This seems unlikely....I've never seen more than two (per side) factory installed, usually just one...but thought I better mention it.

Cheers
