Fire Victim 173

Jeez man, glad you and the car both came out (relatively) unscathed. Same thing happened to both of my 89.5s. Now I do the Kirby treatment on all of them.
No emissions testing? Once you've modded the rotor, lose the cats!
Hear that all you new XJS owners? FIRST THING YOU DO IS THE ROTOR MODIFICATION. Too many of us have experienced this exact failure.
Glad you and your ride are OK.

New Coils, no start
No first trip yet. She won't start. cranks and cranks. I have 12 volts from each lead as well. This pic is looking from the drivers side. A Coil to the right, B coil to the left. Does this look like the cap is on correctly?
Maybe I banged my head to hard, I'm confused.
Pic one is the way I bought the car, so that when I took the wires off I would remember how they went on.
Pic 2 is in April after i put them back, it sure as heck doesn't look like pic 1. But the car ran up until the fire.
Pic 3 is today, going back and using pic one.

She won't run with that crankshaft position sensor burned and melted...
Your rotor wasn't the guilty party this time, it was a simple coil failure.
Same thing happenned to me, with the same warning FF code about 3 days before.
Fortunately for me, I have headers, and total aftermarket exhaust system, and although I do still have cats, they are farther back in the system away from the motor. No fire for me, the cats just disintegrated internally, and ejected their flaming guts out the tailpipe. Quite a thing to see at night!
