Hi Jerry,
The 1990 cars have a crank sensor at the front of the engine. These sensors get old and can become intermittent with heat. I'd suggest replacing the sensor.
Part Number DBC12507
There is also a sensor at the rear of the engine but in my experience the front one fails more often. Take a look at the rear sensor and clean the electrical connection.

Hi Jerry , I know this is a little slow but I prefer to use this forum rather than reply directly to you , the help posted can be referred to by other people in years to come .
getting back to your car , I think we have to go back to basics as in is your problem fuel or spark ? You say the car runs for a short while and then stops does it stop as if you have turned it off or does it peta out slowly?.
If you have a timing light connect it , if the car starts the light will strobe when the car stops turn it over again is the light strobing if not you have an electrical problem. If you do not have a light you will need to hold a spark lead near a good earth to see if there is spark when the engine is not running . If there is spark I would look at fuel ,remove an air filter turn the car over for a few seconds stick your finger into the inlet manifold , it should be very wet with fuel .
once you have established if you have both fuel and spark , there are many other things to look at but it would be confusing to go there at this stage and also would end up being a book ...I will try to monitor this site as much as possible but there are many people in this forum that may know more than myself that will chip in .... the car will run eventually....Good luck John

A 90 is most definitely a Marelli car. If either front or rear sensor is bad, the car won't run. The front one sends a signal for timing, and the rear one sends a signal for engine speed. I have mentioned several times that these "sensors" are at the end of their practical life if for no other reason than time. They are magnets. The send a AC voltage signal to the Marelli ECU. If they go bad, it simply won't fire. Mine have gone bad on my 89, as well as my 97 XJR which isn't Marelli (I don't think)
