They were only factory installed on the facelift V12 models. They were the same type and mounted in the same place as on the previous generation. There are threaded mounting holes in the aluminum bumper under the plastic fascia with openings for them. Take a look on yours and see.
The the picture you posted is very tasteful!
And it's exactly what I have done only with yellow lenses. That's exactly how I think they should have been originally, it sure looks like it was designed for the contoured lights, but then with it being a couple years away from discontinuation I think that they just didn't want to make the effort to secure a supply chain for them. And I doubt ordering dealer installed fog lights held much profit at that point.

The factory fog light switch with the rear window defroster switch is replaced with a switch set that has both front and rear fog lights and the hazard warning switch with a blank space to the right is replaced with a new switch set that contains both the hazard and rear defroster. The plugs the new switches plug into are wired for both options.
