Front spoiler, solutions?

Hey, what do you know...there are even practical reasons for that glorious front spoilers....but, trust me, next time you see a WHITE facelift picture, pay attention to how much a light color paint enhances the spoiler, especially against a darker BRG, like mine.

i got my 1978 XJS at speeds above 70-80mph it folded backwards and deflected air downward (i suspect). no undertray eithier.
when doing paint work, i stood back and liked the cleaner look, without it.
i have no problems with heat or front end lift till around 120-130mph, and the cops are not impressed either.
truth is i dont drive that fast much anymore.

Is anyone aware of whether or not the pre facelift bumpers (rubber) will fit the facelift model. I would like to completely replace the rear and front bumper assemblies with the older style rubber ones.
I understand I will need new chrome pieces. I would just like to know if the entire assembly will fit. The 1993 model looks like an indentical fender to the 1994-1996, so I think it may work.

MSIJORDAN,
I'm not quite sure which part you mean. On the late cars, the "spoiler" is not a separate moulding but is just part of the overall front bumper. So that means a plastic repiar or a new bumper. There is a black undertray which is affixed to both the bumper and the car with screws, Which part is broken? Can you post a pic for us to see?

I have been looking for a front spoiler in junk yards for 3 years. I live in Las Vegas and I can tell you for sure it does NOT affect the cooling system. I drive my Vette in the winter and spring and my 86' XJS in summer and fall. The Vette overheats and even without the spoiler the XJS runs right where it should. I finally found a spoiler while on a trip to Oregon last month and I had forgotten what a tremendous pain in the butt it was on my 85' XJS. I'm having second thoughts now of even putting it on. LOL. I just had it painted and do I really want to have to worry about ripping it out and then looking at what a mess it left under there... IT DOES LOOK GREAT WITHOUT IT. But I know it should be there!

I saw this product, SmartRims, that will be on the market by the end of 2015 that is to save
the rims on a car. It has 4 sensors and a App that installs on a smartphone.
I saw this on GizMag:
SmartRim takes sideways approach to preventing wheel damage
I think 2 sensors could be adapted to work a spoiler sensors.
They quote a possible price of $500 for the 4 sensor and App kit.
Not bad for saving a possible irreplaceable part on a XJS. Or spending that much on
repairs to the spoiler.

Also, I was looking at that E Z lip video comparison and it reminded me that this is not about how smooth the spoiler rides forward on the threat target (whether it is foam or a "harder material", glued or screwed on), but rather what happens when backing up from it, which is where the problem is. If it goes beyond the locking point (i.e. the other side of the parking stall cement block) it hardly matters what you make the spoiler out of, or what you cover it with, the spoiler will break and there's nothing that you can do about it.
And I'll add this one more time. The Jag engineers achievement with the facelift spoiler was sensational. It makes the car look almost as nice as the XJR-S with the TWR kit, which is saying a lot. Sideway and/or 3/4 front view comparisons vs. any previous XJS clearly illustrates what I'm refering to. Removing this beautiful spoiler is something that a facelift XJS certainly doesn't deserve.
