Fuel smell

Afternoon all,
Took the car for a blast in the sun yesterday and as well as an ignition problem I started getting a whiff of fuel in the cabin. Car has had a major overhaul including all new fuel lines and injector rebuilds. I know I’m going to have to look at all the connections and make sure nothings loose. Can I just give the injectors a little nip up too? I did notice car was running a little juddery at low revs. Any suggestions on where to start appreciated.

What is the state of your seal along the top of the firewall/bonnet closing line? If you were to drive without this you willl find a HUGE smell of fuel on taking off after (say) a stop at the lights. This is a characteristic of the engine. You might, with the top down, be getting the smell this way. Top up it may well not be evident.

How full is your petrol tank? I have a strong smell of fuel in the cabin and trunk every time I fill it too close to the seal at the top of the tank. Feel around and look in that area. If its slightly wet or smelly, that’s your culprit. I personally dont mind, its what all XJS have smelled like due to that design. But if the vapors are coming from the front, you have a problem that needs immediate attention. How good is your nose? Mine usually knows where to look and it can pick up fuel smells.
