Fuel/Stalling issue

Fuel/Stalling issue
Hi all,
So yesterday was the hottest day we've had in Albuquerque since I purchased my 94 XJS (I6) Convertible. Yesterday I was running around and it started to lose power. It felt as though it was either running out of gas or suffering from vapor lock (I didn't think happened to FI). The car finally stalled and to my surprise when I restarted it, it ran fine for several miles, then had to repeat the process.
Any ideas??
Also, a wonderful thing happened. For a few minutes (prior to the stalling issue), my fuel gage worked perfectly (as well as my oil pressure gage which comes or goes). When the fuel gage started to not work again, the stalling began. Could this have anything do to with anything???
Tony

Fuel tank venting is high on the list.
The electrical section of the ignition switch is showing age related issues. NOT as common as the earlier cars switch, but a switch all the same, and they do wear out.
Battery getting past its use by date. NOT real critical with a 1994 car, but they are still "juice hungry" cars by any account.
Then the age old reply, BAD earths.

I agree with Grant.
One of the pipes at the top back of the tank is prone to collapsing. That could cause a vacuum or pressure in the tank. Do you get a hiss of air if you open the filler cap?
It MIGHT explain the link with the gauge as the degree to which the fuel moves and thus moves the sender unit could be linked to the problem in the tank.

If you have a 94 (4.0L) Convertible, the Fuel Tank is located behind a Steel Baffle Plate in the Boot/Trunk.
There are only Two Fuel Pipes going to this, the Flow and the Return and they go into the base of the Tank and you will be able to see them if you look underneath the Car by the IRS Cage.
The Pipes that are on the Top of the Tank are the Breather Pipes, which are on the same side as the Fuel Filler Cap, which you may be able to get out, without removing the baffle and its possible that one of these Pipes is blocked.
And if its blocked, then its probably blocked near where it joins up with the filler Cap.
So try and take it off if you can, so you can properly clean it out but its a bit of a job to get to, so lots of patience is needed.
Disconnect the Battery First, in case you get a Spark.
