Default Gas smell inside the car

Hello,

I have a 1989 XJS V12 and recently I had it serviced at XK Unlimited, which is a classic Jaguar shop in California. The car looks nice and all, but the smell was terrible so I sent it back. They found a leak in one of the hoses, fixed it and sent it back to me. To my disappointment the smell is still there. So I took it to my friendly neighborhood repair shop to check it again. They did and found out that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the whole gas/fuel system - there are no leaks, everything is dry.

Has anyone ever experienced something like this? Now, I am thinking maybe it's an oil leak, not gas...

Thanks!
-aa

most cars where the fuel tank is mounted inside the body will have fuel smell!

Enjoy it. Unless its overwhelming, nothing you can do but, replace the tank with a fuel cell.

Where was the leak?
Gas has a pretty powerful smell and lingers, will soak into things, get trapped.

Soap, water, time, a willingness to replace carpets if need be. That smell won't be gone overnight.

Yeah. Where was the leak and how well was it cleaned up and with what?

I changed my fuel pump yesterday and although I tried not to spill, I did, in the boot, and it took some doing to lean up to the point the smell was 'acceptable'. It's still airing out. Removed the insulation type padding around the lines in the boot because they soaked up some fuel and there was nothing that could be done to get rid of the fuel smell. It's like that.
