Getting close to a long term dream

That is exactly the place. As you head out to the north, there is a ravine. The elk jump across it while the motorists drive below. Lucky people just get elk **** on their hood. I managed to get the clumsy one that tripped as he was jumping.
But that could never happen teice to the same person...

Made a little over 900 miles yesterday. What an incredible road car. Cruising between 80 and 100 all day.
The car is so comfortable at that speed. I am really glad I installed the ZF steering rack and poly bushes. Steering is tight and precise. And the new low profile 17” tires just soak up road irregularities.
First problem was no heat. Control valve linkage was stuck closed. Then the dancing oil gauge. Recrimped the connector, and it stabilized.
Currently have the gas tank pressure issue to sort.
Much to my surprise, I didnt use any oil. But the car only has 52,000 miles on it.
Today I am hoping to make it to Denver.
Cheers

So far today on the run from St Louis to Kasas City, I able to keep it between 100 and 120 for two hours. Almost no traffic, and great roads (compared to Africa).
I cannot believe how smooth and controlled this car is at those speeds. Cant believe I have had this for 5 years, and this is the first time I have been able to get it on a road trip to see what it is made of.

Because that would be hovering around 180 kph, which is a very impressive speed. Wish I could do that here without being terrified of losing my licence and probably getting my car impounded for my cheek.
I know the US's infrastructure has issues, but I would definitely hope it's still better than most of Africa.

I have 4 drivers licenses, American, Swiss, East African and South African.
When I drive in this country, I use my East African. Along with the document stating it is legal for 3 months from the time of entry. And I always carry my passports.
i have found the police often do not know how to handle me. One did follow me into a rest stop today. Both to lecture me and to look over the car.
The car just seems to idle at 85. Smooth as silk up to 110. It is an incredible car. And Interstate 70 was virtually deserted today.
There seem to be very few petrol stations. I was sucking fumes today at one point.

Nice shot. There's an "East African" driver's licence? Like, one shared by multiple nations? That would be interesting.
Over here, some Westerners have tried the "I don't speak Japanese" trick when pulled over, but that works less and less these days. Anecdotally. I haven't tried it myself because I'd prefer to pay the fine than be thought of as a lazy bugger unable to speak the language.
