You'd have a fistful of cash - buy a new toy and drive back? Make a weekend of it and fly back?
LongJohn, any chance of getting that guy over here to give us a rundown? Web translation is next to useless.
99% of the time it's the inexpensive USB electronics that go bad vs. the drive. You could try popping the drive in a new enclosure. I don't have a clean room to disassemble hard drives, but I do have forensic software. If you want to send me the drive, Im happy to take a look and post the contents someplace secure for you to download.
Cheers

thanks Flint appreciate the thought, warms my heart!
back in my working days, early 2000s, i charged around 500$ to change out an engine , but when changing the make of engine , more to $1000. because a lot of small mods always have to be made to fit!
not including custom exhaust systems, or ECU mods,ETC.
it would sure be kool to see a big Mercedes Benz logo on top engine when the hood is opened, plus some small logo decals on side/back, to wet there appitite..LOL.
of course at least a 6 spd. trans , i have read that the new GM 8 spd is easier to install, gotta love it!
OK back to reality, at todays cost of doing things , those numbers are probably doubled?

@J_C_R here's a thread with some discussion:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...project-62150/
You know, I had never imagined that turbocharging might be less expensive than a swap - and it would still be a Jaguar at heart. Interesting. Being in Texas where it's exempt from emissions testing, now I'm wondering about rear mount turbos as well. There might be enough room after getting rid of cats and some mufflers maybe?
Possibilities... may need to hit up the local Jag clubs - I would imagine there's a capable mechanic nearby.
[edit] never mind I see @Warrjon has already ruled out remote turbos due to space constraints.
[edit] just read the whole thread again over lunch... unlike the computer industry, hot rodding cars doesn't seem to get any cheaper with time.

Still need to swap rear ends though. 2.88-1 rear ratio is great for good gas mileage and if you need to go 150
mph. But lousy for acceleration.
Youre also hauling 4600+ pounds plus around so little Honda’s with big turbo’s will still embarrass you.

Warrjon, thank you for the clarification. I’m seeing a lot of XJ40 and newer body style XJ12s around here - on donks mostly and cosmetically clapped out but running - cheap. Could probably find a decent runner to rip the 6.0 drivetrain from. Wouldn’t feel bad at all; some of the ugliest Jaguars ever made.
Mac, I’ve never owned a convertible! She’s definitely my preferred color combo. Are you just ready for a change? Wouldn’t that be something if your final road trip in her was to meet me in Dallas for the handoff. Would make for a good story. What does she need maintenance wise? Beautiful car. Got interior pics?

Come on now... definitely not all XJ40s
