Got her home
So the transmission had what was thought to be a bad (from age) front seal. Turned out, someone had changed the front seal but in a manner that ruined the pump bushing. SO.... with the bad pump bushing, rubbing on the torque converter shaft, cause enough wear for a fountain type leak of trans fluid all over the ground.
New bushing, new seal and new torque converter in my 83....... And because they had to cut out the exhaust to get the trans out, a new exhaust system.
I am assuming they went with the stock diameter, with Flow Master mufflers....
Sounds kind of.... VW Bug ish..... small pipe issue maybe? I was thinking since the car is going to be a complete restore, of putting cut outs up near the motor and having side pipes like the old Corvette Stingrays.... with caps on the side pipes though.
Thoughts?

The Jag V12s have an odd tone, apparently due to the firing order. It sounds like two inline sixes rather than a V12. A balance tube is supposed to allow a more V12-ish tone. I plan on trying this on my own V12

So over the last few weeks that I have had her home, I have noticed a few things with the trans.
1. At initial start up when she's cold, there's a horrid metal on metal sound coming from underneath, which in turn is leaving a puddle of red fluid on my garage floor.
2. While it's running after the noise stops, it won't engage into gear almost as if the torque converter has to build up pressure?? (New convertor also mind you.)
3. Once it engages, first gear is doggy as hell. If I wanted to do a burn out or drag race anyone, I wouldn't catch up to them until I hit 2nd gear. THEN she comes to life.
The guy who worked on it said that the pick up seal from the pan might be pinched causing it to lose fluid in the torque convertor while it's sitting??
I know NOTHING about the TH400 or any automatic transmissions. Not sure if this is a BS thing or if he's legit? Any help would be MUCH appreciated.....

100% BS. There is something drastically wrong with the rebuilt trans. It should be perfect right from the start if it has been rebuilt properly. I suggest you find someone else to fix it and send the bill to the first guy!
