Handbrake caliper problem
Evening all, to assist in the removal of the handbrake pad bolt , I fully removed the adjuster screw. I have managed to put it back in and what feels like the thread has started but it doesn’t want to turn in any if that makes sense. It gives a click every so often when you turn it but compared to the other side there is miles more screw showing. I am doing something wrong or is knackered? Thank you for your help once more

If you are referring to the tiny bolt with the flat oblong headed end, that slots into the pad, the threaded end of which bolt goes though the caliper shoe; then either the threads are bad, or the oblong head that goes into the pad slot has worn a path though the friction material, so it will not hold. As in 19 in the diagram
The handbrake pads are total rubbish these days. Far better to make a pad from a normal brake pad, IMO, and thread the backing plate to take a bolt. The backing plate on a normal brake pad is easily thick enough.
Alternatively, of course, there is the full GiF handbrake remodel procedure, which results in a handbrake as strong as any modern one....

Item 14 is the adjuster that is used to pull the pads as close as possible to the disc. If you removed it completely, without dis-assembling the internals of the adjuster, then you have to take the parts named NSS apart, as no doubt part 5 which it threads into is misplaced!
This is not that bad to do; the trickiest bit is removing the spring 11 and the tiny circlip 3 that holds the two parts together. The inside will be a mess of solidified grease etc etc and needs cleaning for the self adjuster to work. take photos CAREFULLY before you take it all apart! When rebuilding, use synthetic hi-temp resistant grease.
This is worth doing on both sides, even if you have got away with it on one side. As Warrjon said, it's all about the journey!

I used ward engineering last time I did the 4.0 and the handbrake calipers were superb. At £38 a side I think that will be the way forward again.The very best reconditioned brake calipers, jaguar axle componenets, hubs, differentials superflex polyurethane bushes also wheel bearing kits, drive shaft ujs, cobra axles for dax, ak,

When I rebuilt my rear calipers I did so in pieces, but I don't think it required having the assembly that far apart, just screws 16 out (I think). It was more like the entire regular caliper went in and then the handbrake assembly went in. Maybe give that a try and get what you have together on the bench?

Brinny completely unscrewed 14, thereby allowing 5 to drop out of alignment. No way to get it back together except taking the thing apart.
