Default Handbrake leather boot

Hi gents-

I recently noticed that my brake gaiter/boot is missing. It has always been there but it’s no where to be found, so I am guessing it was lost during a service....

has anyone had one made at a trim shop? I can only find the ones for the XJ40’s online.

thanks

depending on the year. The 1995 96 has a plastic form inside the cover that you need. Its not just a cover. I just repaired mine.

I went ahead and ordered the boot from a 97 xk8 in the same color. Hopefully it works

Did all XJS's have a brake cover? My '93 has no sign of one?

In the UK, it was only fitted to the later Celebration models.

hi Paul. Mine is not a celebration but it always had it.

Based on the photos I have seen the one from the early xk8 should fit well.

The leather parking brake cover was part of the 1995.25 update beginning with VIN 198335.

...then you got lucky!

Or

Maybe it was added later by a previous owner, never really installed correctly, and came off at some point...

They could have had a start day/week that the line started including them in the original build, and yours was in the line and had it included.

Curious: do you have the ABS accumulator ball, or do you know if you have the Teves IV brakes that didn't use an accumulator ball?

sadly, I have the T3 with the accumulator ball. Also, all leather steering wheel, no wood. Would have been nice for the car to have been in the line that got the T4 brakes too!!!!

Mark,

The leather wheel would be normal. Wood & Leather came in at Celebration changepoint, not this one.

But yours is the first car that I've heard of that should have the vented rear brake disc and revised ABS but doesn't. If it's ok, could you drop me a PM of the VIN as I'd like to check the build record status with Jaguar when I get a chance.

Tks

Paul

Slightly off subject: I would like to get history on my XJS, would you provided me the method? Don't want to trouble you to do something I can do.

hi Paul. My vin ends in 19619x

The XK8 gaiter/boot worked perfectly and looks like the original. Probably the same part although JCP does not list it for the XJS at all

If you have a XJS interior code AFW, the 97 XK8 interior code SDC will match 95 percent if you want to replace the boot.

Hi Mark,

That looks really good, I might try and source a cream-coloured XK8 one for my car!

Sorry, I misread your post about your VIN. I thought you'd said it was after 198335. So your brakes are as expected. Based on VIN, your car was probably made within 2 days of my car! And like me, I see you've changed your gearknob or did US cars have a wooden one at that time?

Cheers

Paul

Spike,

Where'd you get those floor mats/carpets?

Thanks, Paul

I ***think*** when the car was new it had a plastic barley or black colored gear knob. I don’t remember. My grandfather got the authentic wood knob from the Jaguar dealership here, but unbelievably, that knob was also lost when I had the evaporator replaced 5 years ago or so. So the one there currently is one I sourced from Welsh, which unfortunately is not the correct wood one.

i don’t remember because I lost all the manuals and records of services and purchases for my cars during a move~~(That’s 3 things lost for me in one topic (1-brake gaiter 2-shift knob 3-manuals and records)~~

......but I can tell you I paid over 200 bucks for them a long time ago and they are one of the best things I have bought, for any car ever. no matter how dirty they get, I get them out and use the Bisell machine on them and they come came to like-new condition. Not just visually but they regain their softness. I will try to see if they have the name somewhere on them
