Default Has anyone ever used 'Snow Foam' to Wash their XJS?

Hi Guys

Has anyone ever used 'Snow Foam' to Wash their XJS?

I think it's called 'Snow Foam' made by 'Ignition'

Has anyone used it and is it any good and how much 'Ball Park' figure does it cost?

Hi OB, (And a very Merry Christmas to you!)

Yes, I've been using it for years and wouldn't handwash any of my cars without first snow-foaming them.

As with most products, there are huge variances in quality of products and prices. Also, using a decent snow foam lance makes an enormous difference. You will also need to play around a few times with the settings on the lance and also the level of concentrate that you mix. Plenty of videos on YouTube to help you.

The price of decent lances has come down considerably. As a minimum, get one with a brass valve body. I'm guessing that you have a Karcher pressure washer? If so, just go to ebay and type "Snow foam lance Karcher" and you'll get loads of options on Karcher-compatible snow foam lances. Prices from £10. No need to pay more than £20 nowadays for something good.

As regards the foam itself, a huge number on the market. You want a good quality PH neutral foam that has good foaming and clinging qualities. I use Valet Pro Advanced Neutral Snow Foam. You can get it for about £10 per litre but it's available for about £28 for 5 litres if you look around. For price, you can do a lot worse than use The Ultimate Finish. See here:

Snow Foam & Pre-Wash Detailing Products | Ultimate Finish (theultimatefinish.co.uk).

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul

A Very Happy New Year to You! and everyone else on the Forum

I've been watching some Snow Foam Videos and it looks to be good stuff, so really wanted to make sure its ok for the Paintwork

Good Tip about getting a Snow Foam Lance to go with my Karcher cause I never thought of that

So going to get one just as soon as I find a Shop that sells them

Thanks Again

Alex

OB,

Even Halfords do a tidy little kit with brass body and Karcher adapter. Not bad at £22 if you have a Halfords Trade card.

I have one, forget the brand but it was the recommended one at the time; I was hoping it would spray on and hose off 10 mins later and all would be clean. Sadly not, I stll have to sponge it over by hand before hosing it off to shift the dust etc, so it does not really save much time or effort over the bucket and shampoo.
Is there a technique you use that shifts it better than I am managing? I thoroughly spray off the car with the Karcher before applying the foam.

Hi Greg,

I think you'll have to mentally rephrase what you think Snow Foam will achieve. I position it as something you do BEFORE you clean the car. It's aim is to prep the car such that it minimises the amount of human surface contact that you have to undertake to then clean the car. As every touch of the car is a potential risk of damaging the paint, the less you have to do the better. Snow Foam works by trying to pull off as much of the surface dirt and contaminant as possible without human surface contact, leaving you less need to then massage the car with your regular shampoo and wash mitt (Please tell your use of the word "sponge" was a just euphemism and you don't actually use a sponge any more?!)

I do find it very therapuetic, the sight of the car fully covered in clingy foam is a joy to behold! Or maybe I'm easily pleased!

Finally something that I can contribute to :-)

OB, yes, I have been using it for years and have tried many many products before finalizing my current set up. Sorry, I don't have a picture of the XJS all foamed up. She doesn't need to be washed too often.

I use MTM PF22.2 Foam cannon and I use German product called Koch Chemie GSF soap.

I have been following Matt of Obsessed Garage for many years and you can find reviews, details and pricing on this website.

Let me know if you have any questions and I would be happy to provide additional details.

Here is a link to Matt's website but many of the products are also available elsewhere:

Hi TTG*

Cheers!

That was Mega Useful and extremely interesting!

Though I thought Snow Foam was one of those products only manufactured by one Company, a bit like WD

OK so what I am planning to do, is to pick up a litre of Snow Foam to try and see what its like, as on the Surface 'Pun Intended!' it looks really good stuff, though maybe not the ideal time of the Year for Washing Cars

Thanks Again

Alex

Thanks for the info. That won't do at all then! And I do still use a sponge! As you can detect, I have a blind spot when it comes to cleaning them, compensating for my mechanical obsession with having everything 110% no doubt.
Let me know when the product is invented that you spray on and karcher off and it's done!

I use this with my industrial Karcher. But any Karcher will do

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323716283...oAAOSwRcZceTBJ

You will need this for your lance.

There is no easy way to clean a car without elbow grease.

I power wash it with water first, then snow foam it, then while the foam is still on use a mitt or sponge to clean it, then rinse it.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383640942...8AAOSwA71deQiQ

I then use spray on wax in the same attachment as the foam uses, just rinse it.

I have been using it on 3 of our Jags with no issues apart from needing a lager afterwards, hard going.

Gee.

All clean and dried
