Haywire XJS oil pressure gauge

Wondering if anyone has a possible cause for this. I have a '95 XJS 6cyl. and my oil pressure gauge is pegged to the right. 1st I took the instrument cluster out, removed the gauge and moved the pointer back to the left and rested it on it's peg. It was easy to move and sprung back when you moved it to the right. So I thought the sending unit was bad ( Jaguar calls it a transponder) and bought a new one from Jaguar. I put it in along with the cluster started the car and the oil pressure gauge pegged to the right within a couple of seconds. Bad gauge?? I've owned the car for 15 years and it runs like a top. The oil light in the dash works (pulled the wire off the switch tested it to ground and it lit) so I don't think the oil pressure is low. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
