Default Help!! AC Evaporator needed

I need to replace the evaporator on my 95 XJS V12. Having trouble finding one. Any idea where to go for one of these other than Jag dealer?

I've never seen an aftermarket one. It's a huge amount of work to get to the evaporator, are you 100% sure you need to replace it? What happened?

You can get one here: https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/u...ing-evaporator

You are 100% right. Dash has to come out. Yes refrigerant leaking out condensate drain from evaporator. Already replaced ALL other AC parts. At a cost of $1000.00 and now being quoted $2200.00 for evaporator which is only available through Jaguar ($900.00) and the additional $1200.00 is for labor to replace it. I am curious though could it be leaking at "O" rings or be repaired?

Anything can be repaired. I would pull the evaporator, pressurise it, and see where the leak is. The leak is very likely in one of the many tinned joints, and a skilled person could fix it quite easily. Failing that, rip one out of a scrap car.

It's possible, I suppose that it could be O rings, or a faulty expansion valve. The expansion valve can be tricky to remove, it is easy to crack the evaporator if you don't do it right and support the evaporator pipe with a wrench. In theory, an evaporator could be braized/welded ( they are aluminium), but it is a pressure vessel ( the high side can approach 300 psi), so it would have to be very good welding. If you're going to all the work to remove it, I'd put a new one in if it was me.

At the moment, £543 from Jaguar in the UK works out to about $660 USD, plus probably another £40 for shipping, you should be able to order one for less than $900. Jaguar Classic uses DHL, you'd have it in 2 days.

Failure of the evaporator seems to be quite rare, so a good used one should also work.

Indeed it is, but I had one fail, but a second hand one was pressure tested and installed, no bother. As you mentioned, the prices for one are far lower than the OP mentioned:

He should just google and look about a bit, I reckon.
