Help- Cold running and misfiring

Just started this week - coincidentally the weather chilled this week too.
My 91 v12 starts and idles fine, but clearly loses power in a jumpy, on-off sort of way while cruising. If I accellerate, only an occassional misfire, an occassional pinging too. At part throttle cruising, no ping, but its clearly jumpy and miserable. Not sure if linked, but I get almost no engine heat on the guage now. The guage hovers around the "N" usually, but climbs only halfway there, closer to the "C" now.
The Marelli was serviced 3000 miles ago with new plug wires, cap, coils and plugs, so i don't think that's it. Besides, my problem is intermittent and I've heard a Mirelli's death results in sustained power loss until fixed or it burns. I'm thinking temp sensors, or a cold start mechanism, or a cooling system issue is causing this. I don't really know anything about those and hope that someone does... if it's simple.
One other thing, it acts up more when first driven than later, but still fusses all day. Though this was not intended as a daily driver, it has been one for most of the last year. Now has about 85000 miles and serviced 3000 ago.
Any ideas? My local guru is $200 away by tow.
