Default Hood/conv. top will not go back up.

Lowered hood. It will not go up. Quarter windows operate only intermittently. At present: hood is down, right quarter window is down, left quarter window is up. Brake is on, transmission is in park, Checked fuses, Replaced UP relay with new. Volt indicator in instrument panel drops when activating the hood up switch. Should I bypass relay and if this does not raise hood, what is next step?

Above the pump is a handle for turning the system into manual mode if you need to close the roof now.
You should add the cars info too; lets us know which car
Every now and then l have to remove the side covers and tap the motor as l push the switch.
Also important is the fluid level of the pump. If its low don't be tempted to put any old hydraulic fluid in.
Someone will come along soon with more help

Remember that you have individual Up & Down relays for each window plus relays for the hood operation. Try swapping the relays from the "good" side and see if it resolves the problem.

Good luck

1996 XJS Convertible - For info - The last time it was raised by power the top stopped abut 2 inches from being seated. It still powered down.
After switching relays and blowing a fuse, I checked the hydraulic fluid level and found most of it on the garage floor and around the Hood Electronic Control Module. Will have to remove and disassemble the whole shelf of ECM, relays and hydraulic pump. Any cautions or suggestions?

Hi Paul
Sorry for intruding into this post, but I was facing a similar situation and checked the forum out for information.
Having read what various threads discussed about the topic, I ventured towards looking at the pump.
My issue is that the top opens up quite well but cannot close back unless I help it.
When I checked the pump, I saw to start with, the previous owner had used red oil, probably trans or power steering? Not sure.
The pump container appeared to be practically empty, yet very little leakage around the pump.
I operated the pump to see where the leak is coming from but saw nothing squirting out.
So I will empty what red stuff remains there and replace with the proper oil.
Question, what is the best method to remove the oil from the pump.
I guess I need to watch where the oil is being driven, through which plastic pipe and loosen that out? Right?
Thx for any advice.
Cheers
Farouk
