Default How did you know you needed your rebuild your front end?

I rebuilt the rear end last summer, well, not really, someone had, but it needed new radius arms so I did those. The front end has a little slop. The XJS is my trusted backup car when the Italian has problems, which is often. I have have 129k miles to be hones but the car is mint otherwise. I'm thinking:

Ball joints upper and lower
Control arm bushings
Sway bar end link bushings and connecting bushings

Am I missing anything? I have a huge garage and will probably do this myself unless I get told that I have to travel or something.

Add tie rod ends and steering rack bushings. For the steering rack, use polyurethane. Also, check the shock bushings, and the upper control arm bump stops. If you drop the front suspension out of the car, replace the front and rear crossmember mounts, and probably the engine mounts.

Check the wheel stub axles too; if there is wear track on the bottom side where the bearing inner race loads are, replace them too. If you do all this, or check it all for being 100%, You will end up with a car front end driving like a new one. I have done this over the last 2 years and it is a joy to drive it.
TIP: for the absolute best ride/handling I use Boge shock absorbers on the front. These are OEM in fact, and I have just changed the upper shock absorber rubbers to rubber UNDER the wing (with the special OEM metal cup washer in place) and POLY above the wing with NO metal washer. You will not believe the difference this made to the ride! Fantastic.

I actually did the Boges last summer on suggestion of one of your other posts when I did the rears, but not the cup washers I don't think, I need to revisit that. I think at this point since I'm pulling, or dropping the springs I'll tear everything out.

You'll need to support the engine when you remove the subframe. I use this support from Harbor Freight which works great. I've used it more than I thought I would. https://hftools.com/app96524

And, as you're going to this much effort and expense, to avoid having to do this again anytime soon, Be Sure to use genuine Metalastik bushings on the upper and lower control arms.

I have a hoist and a crossbar for shock towers, I'm sure I can get one to work. The question is will my back work?

I would replace the steering rack mounting bushings with polyurethane bushings, and I probably would replace the steering rack pinion seal, and both power steering hoses at the same time.
