How does the floor insulation and carpet mount exactly?
Ok so when I got my 93 xjs the carpets and insulation were all out. I kinda figured out how everything goes, however my front carpet and insulation just slides around. I have one partial turnbuckle on the passenger side, and that would explain how the carpet gets mounted, and I know there are holes in the insulation, and the seat module covers. I looked on sng at the carpet section and they show the turnbuckles, but they also show eyelet and buckle stud. How exactly do the pieces layer and attach correctly?
I’m just finishing the new interior on my 88, and learned a bit about this.
the front Carpet should have two Velcro strips sewn into the back of them. Beneath those is a layer of foam insulation with a rubber backer. The other half of the Velcro is on these. These are fastened to the floor with two bendable metal tabs. The tabs go through a slot in the insulation and you bend them down to lock in place.
hope that helps.
The footwell carpet changed at least twice on facelift cars. First of all, do you have the insulation foam pads which fit in the footwell area? Also, does your car have the long or short footwell carpets? The long ones come up underneath the front edge of the seat. The short ones finish at the obvious floorpan join point and don't use turnbuckles. They use a plastic L-shaped strip that runs across the width of the carpet and engages with a metal strip on the floorpan.
Ok cool! I did look around today a little. I have the foam, rubber backed pieces and saw the things on the floor, but didn't see how they attached or anything on the diagrams on sng. I guess I have the long carpets, they use the plastic turnbuckle that mounts to the metal cover of the seat module. I ordered some from sng. Fingers crossed
See attached pics of the short-type carpet and underfoam on my 1994 AJ16-engined car. As mentioned, they don't use turnbuckles but stay in place with a plastic strip stitched to the carpet (which breaks) that engages with that metal strip on the floorpan as shown in second pic.
