How many 6cyl Celebration Convertibles were produced in the UK (XJS 4.0L)

According to Nigel Thorley's book "You and Your XJS" published by Haynes, between 1995 and 1996, 5,490 celebration convertibles with the 4.0 litre engine were produced. I do not know how may of these were RHD, or how many were sold in the UK market. JDHT might be able to tell you.
The VIN number is on the car in various places (might be one in the corner of the windscreen visible from outside). If you post it, someone will have a VIN decoder. This number is also stamped into the body on the panel running across the car just in front of the windscreen wiper grill that the engine bay bracing struts are bolted to.

Thanks, I've found the number!
Just wanted to know how rare it actually was, not my favorite car though, I prefer the V12

Hi Malc
Yeah! I've found it, stamped in the places Greg said, including the registration document.
I was sort of wondering if these Celebration models, would be numbered a bit like limited additions, ie number 70 out of 400 etc.
That would have made things much more interesting, for Collectors.

Orangeblossom,
You keep saying you prefer the V12 but you post a photo of your 1995 with the AJ16 on your header. You know Orangeblossom, it really is ok to admit how much you really do like your '95-LOL!!!! Very nice color combination I might add.
I am getting to feel like I need to start a support group for all the in line 6 XJS owners. We will start each meeting of by stating our groups stated truths:
1.) It is ok to admit that great things come in smaller packages.
2.) It is ok to admit to all our fellow V12 XJS friends how reliable our in line 6 XJS' really are-we just won't talk about it when our V-12 friends are working on theirs.
3.) It is ok to brag about how easy it is to work on our in line 6 XJS'-again we just won't talk about it when our V12 friends are trying to change a exhaust manifold or a power steering hose.
4.) We know that Jaguar was built on the laurels of the in line 6 motor.
5.) We get such great gas mileage that we can actually afford to drive our cars as much as we want and since we hardly have to work on them we can do just that-LOL!!!!!!!!

As for driving the XJS (6) I'm sorry to say that it just doesn't do it for me and as for fuel economy, as I may have said before, I'm after 'Smiles per Gallon' rather than 'Miles!'
As for being reliable, when the fuel pump went on the XJS 6 cyl
It was one of the most difficult jobs, I've ever had to do on any Car!
So please include me OUT of any support group! (lol)
And leave us V12 owners to struggle on by ourselves, where every day we have to put up, with the kind of 'Adrenaline Rush' that you just cannot get on Prescription.
And envious looks from everyone else on the road! (When of course we are not too busy fixing our Cars!)

I would imagine driving a V12 and going back to a 6 cylinder would be a hard thing to jump back to.
I went from a 4 cylinder SUV to a V12 XJS and man, driving that little SUV now is a chore lol!
Also the fuel economy on my HE isnt quite as bad as i thought it would be or what everybody says, but of course you couldnt compare economy to a 6 cylinder, but thats not why i drive mine. Each to their own i guess

OB,
The idea of a "Celebration" XJs being a limited edition is a misnomer. Jaguar just made some minor changes to the spec (mainly wood & leather steering wheel plus wooden gear knob) and called all XJSs from that point (VIN 221855) "Celebration". Although as you know there are no badges etc. It was just a brochure name. So all XJSs from May 1995 to end of production in April 1996 are called "Celebration" XJSs.
As with most cars, the most collectable and valuable often tend to be the first or the last models produced. That's why early pre-HE Coupes or late Celebration convertibles make the biggest money.

I have an XJ6 , agreed. It is cheap even compared to a 95 Jeep.

Paul, we all drive drive them because we want to and maybe we can afford it. Otherwise you would be standing on the street saying "look at that dude driving the old Jag"
