I've been through three of these units already. There must be a good, functional one out there in someone's garage. It's the OEM Alpine-built Model # AJ-9250W, part # DAC 7614. If you have one you'll sell, please pre-test it or know it operated perfectly when removed. Why do I want this old-fashioned POS? Well, I listen to talk radio, I have a load of cassette tapes and even some of those new-fangled CDs that require the original radio to operate the boot-mounted CD magazine.
I think this particular unit had a high failure rate. You can either get the head unit in the 95/96 cars, which I have never heard fails, or you can buy the new Jaguar 1,200$$ Head unit they have made specially for our cars with lots of bells and whistles (not enough IMO)
or option 3 is just get the least aesthetically offensive single din from Crutchfield and adapt to it.
You can use an Alpine unit and as long as it has the same connector it will control the CD changer in the boot. Having cassette might be a problem though.
Hey Dave - I still haven't gotten around to testing the radio.
Too many other projects on my list.
Maybe it's time to bite the bullet and install a modern unit.
Convert those tapes and CD's to MP3's and be done with it.
Will the unit from the 95/96 cars fit my '93 and bolt right in? The existing plug will plug into the later model AM/FM/cassette and operate all functions?
