Default Ignition module 88 and a few years back

Y'all, just happened to remember that the Lucas igniter module (was mounted on front right of my first XJS a 1987) with 4 leads had a GM module inside. I think the part number for the Standard Motor Products part was LX 315 or LX 316, very cheap. Just take the Lucas box apart (be careful, apparently the box is worth a LOT of money :-) ) get the GM module, install in the box and replace.

Yep.

The ones I use are Echlin brand, made in USA, and part No TP45B. The "B" is for blister pack, so deal with that as you wish.

I have NEVER had an issue with that brand in many, many years.

Grant,
Anyone you know ever identified the "guts" of the later (Marelli) igniter? You think it has to be gotten from Lucas, or is there a "swap" inside the box?

The newer ones with Marelli have a 6 lead box.

NAH, never got involved with the Marelli system cars, only 1 car in our group with it.

My thinking is the fact it has 2 coils doing 2 seperate things, has me thinking the "box" has 2 modules (ignitors) inside it, 1 for each coil.

Someone with a Marelli schematics could easily read that bit for you/us. I dont have one or I would do it.
