I'm looking for a good AM, FM, CD player replacement
I'm sure a lot of you know a lot more about what is out there than I do. The last stereo I have installed in my car was a LONG time ago. I'm old school and a lot of all this Bluetooth stuff would probably just confuse me. All I'm looking for is a good simple good sounding reliable receiver and CD player. Many years ago, I installed a (mostly) Alpine receiver, equalizer, AM, FM, cassette (yes...cassette) player, two bi-amps, woofer and speakers. It rocked! Now, I have no idea if Alpine is still owned by the same company and I don't really want to take a week to figure out how to use my new radio. I found out today that I will probably have to hard wire this new receiver in my car unless I want to make up some go between wires. No, adapter, or pig tail is available. I figure a couple of bills at most, nothing too exciting. At my age (65) if you hear me cranking up my radio real loud, it's probably because I'm getting hard of hearing.

Typing in 1993 Jaguar XJS radio harness on eBay does pull something up. Whether it helps, I'm not sure.
You may just want to take this to a car radio specialty shop. I'm sure there are a few in Arizona that you could go to. Sometimes it is worth it to pay someone else to do it?
If you really are deadset on doing it yourself, I found Crutchfield very knowledgable and informative via email. They make some solid recommendations and I ended up buying speakers from them awhile back. Couldn't be happier, and I learned something.

Yes, I've been looking at Cruthfield, I've bought from them before. I just saw a couple of Alpine AM, FM, CD player receivers that claim to have 200 watts of power and they are both under $130.00. It seems their prices have come down. I would have to travel 130 miles one way to go to a shop and have them do it. Anyway, All I need to do is connect the receiver maybe between 6-8 wires, shouldn't be a big deal.

One thing to consider...I know you want CD, but if you ditch the CD, many of these head units are now shallower making it much easier to fit back in when all wire connections have been made.
Not that it can't fit, it just makes life much easier when you have to go back in there for any reason.

93xjs6cyl,
As I'm sure you will have seen, most modern units will have eschewed the CD player in favour of a Bluetooth or aux input connection.
I'd also recommend that you just buy a cheap Jaguar to ISO wiring connector for your model, from ebay for a few bucks to avoid you having to cut any wires. You, or a future owner could then reinstall the original head unit if required.
I fitted an Alpine CDE185BT unit a few years ago which has been great, allowing me to play music from phone / online sources and go handsfree for phone. I'm not so concerned about real sound quality in the convertible so have left the original speakers.
Good luck with your choice.

The diaphragms on my 20 year old speakers distintegrated upon touch when I replaced the speakers in my XJS. Once everything is back on the car, you can't even tell the speakers were changed. The OEM grills remain in tact and in place.
