Default installing Rear KYB shocks with factory springs question

My local shop couldn't put the new shocks and old springs together. The top collet/cover wouldn't fit inside without hitting the jaws of the compressor. So I took it to 3 more shops and all of them the jaws wouldn't fit or the jaws fit but the compressor was 2 small. So if anyone has install the KYB shocks specifically and have any pics of the compressor and install please share with me. I asked on FB as well and have some leads. I may end up going to a actualy dealership ugh just gonna cost more than a local shop to do it if they even can. Unfortunately they are appointment only right now so I can't just walk in and ask if they can do it.

I looked at maybe doing the make your own with brake discs since I have all 4. But it won't work either due to the way the kyb shocks are setup.

I've generally had best luck using a compressor designed for MacPherson struts. Typically the fingers seem more compact

No their compressor jaws were to thick so when they went to slide that top cover (where my hand is) it wouldn't fit into the spring because it would hit the jaws.

That doesn't these specific kyb shocks as the spring has to set on the upper and lower collets.

I looked at using the old brake disc method but you cant compress the springs from the top and bottom. Only way is using outer compressors with jaws

I fitted KYB to one of mine, and used these.

These claw type of mine are OLD, and have served me well.

The Gabriel were simply to fit, but thats off subject.

Ya your the 2nd person to say that style is what you used. I've seen them for sale on Amazon but I think they are cheap materials. I'm having trouble finding a well built set. I'll keep lookin but at least now I have 2 people with the same answer so I'm.on the right path.

Rescue
There is not that much pressure on an individual rear spring, an cheap set will do it.

That KYB set up looks very similar to that of my XJRS bilsteins which is not the traditional jag rear shock spring split collet.
l use my shop press for assembly.

Find someone with a Branick. They make quick work of it. Most shops have one. The small threaded rod claw type also can work but it's precarious and not for me at this stage of my life. If you have the space and plan to tinker... older models like the 7600 can be had for about 300$. The older model cant do the large struts found on newer cars and trucks and aren't rated for them so for insurance reason shops sell them. They're perfect for the home gamer.

I used the same type of compressors as Grant. That was by far the easiest part of the job. The best fun was getting the old ones apart..

Thanks guys. I've been looking at the ones like grant posted but some reviews have had people brake on them.

Luckily the shop was the one that took them apart and they said it was a pita.

Good news...went to chrysler dealership that I bought my 2019 van from and the guy takes a shock and spring says I'll be right back, comes back 5 minutes later done lol. I said heres 3 more. 30 minutes done. Charged me 1/2 hr labour which is 60 bucks plus tax which was 78 but I had a 500 dollar gift card I got when I bought the van so didn't cost me anything.

Thanks for all the help though.
