Interior squeak hunt

Interior squeak hunt
This you may find amusing...
My car is extremely quiet, rattle and clonk free even over very poor surfaces, being the result of determinedly hunting them down. On my way home from a recent trip to the UK when the car was seriously hot after several hours running at goodly speed on a sun temp of well over 45 C, a rubbery squeak appeared.
Subsequently it only reappeared when the car was seriously hot, and only when on very sharply uneven tracks.
Such things drive any normal man mad, so investigations were started. The squeak was emanating out from the top of the dash. The finest minds available were consulted (a reference to the Franco-Oz hotline) and various things were tightened up and tried, without really nailing the problem. Discussions of dash removal, console removal etc etc, none of which appealed.
Then this morning, on my rough track down to Chateau GiF, car all hot from a shopping trip for Madame, I had the brainwave of releasing the bonnet. Squeak stopped.
Back to garage, grease applied to bulkhead seal, side stops slightly adjusted lower and rubber tops greased. Car tested, all good! Phew!

Nice one Greg. I love simple cheap wins.
Always worth investigating noises. Once, working in Malaysia, I started up a hire car that had been parked in the hotel car park overnight. A faint intermittent wail started so I stopped the engine to investigate. There, curled up on a chassis rail, was a tiny kitten that had presumably climbed up overnight. Safely extracted it wandered off unharmed. Car wasn't even a Jag!
