Default Interior wood trim - lacquer or varnish
I wanted to touch uo some spots. I think it is lacquer, but wanted to make sure

I'm fairly certain a '92 would have polyurethane.

It used to be lacquer, and then they switched to polyurethane at some point. Polyurethane didn't used to dry hard enough to sand and polish, but more modern formulas do. Exact switchover year I don't know.

I was rather hoping for a spot repair. Looks like I might be in for a bit of sanding

It's actually a polyester, not a urethane. The wood was finished with lacquer in the 60's, I think they stopped that in the early 70's
