Interesting Article on XJ-S Development history...
Hi Guys,
Firstly, Happy new Year to you all!
I came across this article whilst surfing this morning, I'm sure many of you have read this or something similar however, I had not, so I'm sure one or two of you would enjoy all this as much as I just did...
I think that you have to recall that the last of the E types were considered obsolete. There was a surplus of unsold units stored at a local air field. Compare the series three E type to the contemporary Jensen Interceptor, It comes off as very old fashioned. The XJS exceeded the Jensen's specifications and at a better price. The XJS beat the Jensen at the luxury high performance GT game. There was a lot more of the Italian influence in the Jaguar, though i think the XJS was better looking than the Lamborghini which was released in 1964.
Very Great article. The XJS has sure been through the mill, so to say. I'm glad it survived and became the icon it is today. I first drove one when I was 18 about 1978. And was Blown Away! I said, I got to have me one of them Jag's!!! It only took me 38 years to achieve that dream, oh well better late then never!

I have to say I LOVED the look of the Jensen though.....

Glad you liked it, I almost read it twice as I really enjoyed the history in there. Your story is similar is to mine: The very day I passed my driving test a friend of the family took me out in his almost new Jag and stopped at the entrance to a high speed road, got out of the car walked around to the passenger side and said 'move over you're driving'!!! I've loved Jags ever since and always wanted one - this is my first Jag and I feel I am reliving and own a piece of history....
I always liked them since I watched The Saint as a kid (he had a white coupe). I also had a toy one, that was "remote controlled". It came with a toy gun that you pointed at the car, pulled the trigger, which made a loud click, and that made the car go either forward or backwards.
Great detailed article. Scary thought that the car that makes me smile every day could have died long before I ever discovered it. I go to work smiling and I come home smiling, just looking at her beautiful lines. If she had a manual transmission, high compression pistons and no emissions junk I would probably pull a jaw muscle.
Does anyone know which issue of MOTOR magazine the article is talking about? I have the other two magazines. - Never mind, I found it.
