I spoke to the parts folks at WELSH and they say they been selling these springs for some time and have not gotten folks complaining about fitment - which doesn't make anything 100% guaranteed - but enough to give me confidence to go forward.

I was going to use the old shocks before with these new springs and couldn't find anyone that could separate the spring from shock - my search wasn't exhaustive. I don't wanna have to go thru the process of taking these off again just to put them right back on... No fun in that!

The new shocks and springs are on the car and it was not a difficult job at all...

With the old springs in hand ICS and I measured the gauge of the OLD individual coils to get roughly 10mm. The new springs 12mm!!! Same number of spring coils total at 9 something.

ICS started making jokes about the possible DIFFERENCE in ride height immediately, but I was unafraid, lolololololololol.

Put the 4 in,,, and BAM!!! Yes, it was (especially at first) a dramatic difference. Like hot rod rear in the air. Moved the car and it settled a bit. Jacked up the car up HIGH to do the PS pump the last couple of days and she settled more. Ride is stiffer but nice. Don't know how and what to attribute to springs and/or shocks in the ride right now, but the ride feels nice to me...

Mind you. The car is parked on a downhill slope in the photo and actually sits a bit lower when on flat land...

With the OE 15 inch rims,,, I don't think it would work,,, but I like the look with the larger 17inch rims.

 

Not a huge fan of the larger wheels and ride height but if she makes you smile then sit back and enjoy it.

 

Looks ok to me and the red / black is a nice combo.

Springs need time to take a set so I expect it to settle a bit after a few weeks of driving. In any case... here in NYC our roads favor ground clearance so perhaps replacing the tired front springs would be helpful too.

To put a finer point on the springs wire diameter. Your old springs measured 11.05mm. I usually see anywhere from 11.25 to 11.75mm springs wire diameter model dependent. Your replacement springs were 12mm and I have not yet seen any that thick. Even the aftermarket Eibach and DB7 are both 11.75mm but have only 7 coils. I think the stout springs will be OK for a heavier convertible typically loaded with touring gear especially after they settle a bit.

 

I ordered my springs from Welsh as well. The OEM I removed from my car had 9 turns... like yours, the new ones I received have 8.

I have a facelift, with a 6 cylinder engine. Doesn’t surprise me that we would get different springs, but I was worried that the springs would be too different. Will report back after I spend some time driving it!
