K&N oil filter / oil
Hi all. I have 2 questions.
1st one.
Has anyone use a K&N oil filter on their 6 cylinder 4.0 AJ6 engine. After some research and cross reference I found K&N HP-1014 oil filter. Has anyone use this filter and is it safe to say that it can be use.
2nd question.
I own 2 1994 Jaguar XJS with the 4.0 engine. One has 35,000 miles and the other one has 113,000 miles I am about to do their first oil change under my ownership. Planning on using synthetic Mobil 1 0w40 (open to suggestions) both car are only driven from spring to fall in New York. So the question is should assumed to use High mileage oil for the one with 113,000 miles because of the additive it has for the seals on high mileage cars. And should I use regular synthetic oil for the one with 35,000 miles or should I use high mileage not because it has high mileage but because of the age it has.
Thanks in advance,

Let me be the first to say I love your choice of cars!
In K&N’s own mind, they are the best... I do not use K&N.
I hear you loud and clear on the high mileage aspect. My thought has always been, what else are you sealing up in there... and for that reason I do not use high mileage alternatives.
If you look about there are some truly independent reviews of lubricants... I continue to use the best synthetic Castrol has to offer.
(even in the lawn tractor)
Where are the pictures of my dream cars??

Thanks for posting the questions and I will read the answers with great interest. I also recently bought a new to me XJS and it sat in my garage unregistered and unused for the winter. I will insure and register it as of April 1st and am now going to start getting it ready for the road. Normally I would change the oil myself (and I may not be able to stop myself from doing so) but since I have yet to drive it I may bring it into a shop to check it out and have them change it. I am sure the information provided in this thread will help make a good choice for the type and weight of oil I will discuss with the mechanic.
Best of luck with those beautiful cars.

I use Castrol Edge 0w40 in my 96 with the AJ16. Why?
0w = lowest viscosity at startup. I don't understand why anyone could want a higher number here.
40 = for my Washington DC location, works well at both cold and hot seasons.
Why synthetic, purely for the extended drain interval. My car is a daily driver, so I rack up about 10,000 miles a year on it. If it was a weekend car, or something that picked up less mileage, I'd have no problem with a conventional oil.
Feel free to read Bob Is The Oil Guy (or bitog) website if you want information overload on oil.

Hello
When I was in my 20's, I worked on heavy machinery. My boss insisted we put in the below oil additive in all our the gear boxes as it "apparently" decreases wear and tear. These machines were operated approximately 20 hours a day (to allow servicing), week in week out.
https://www.moreyoil.co.nz/moreys-he...il-stabilizer/
In our hydrostatic drive - we installed an audible alarm into the system (not fitted in the factory), to warn us if we have hose failure. This alarm did beep now and then. We hired a "special" employee, who did not like the beep, so he disconnected it, then a hose blew, and the machine came to a halt as she ran out of oil. We fixed the hose, filled the tank, held our breath, and she finished the season with no other issues.
When we pulled her to pieces in the off season, no damage was done to the unit. The Morey's puts a film of oil on the internal parts that prevents metal to metal contact - even if the oil escapes. No metal to metal contact means no wear.
I use this stuff in all my cars, in the engine, transmission, diff and power steering. The ratio does change depending on where you are installing it.
Please don't take my word as gospel - just like any other additives out there, do your research before doing anything. But I really like this stuff
Cheers

For oil filters, my favourites are Wix and then Motorcraft. I've cut a number of filters open, the those two seemed to have the greatest amount of filter media and the best anti-drainback valve. Frams were the worst, basically cardboard glued together.
I get the Motorcraft on Rockauto.com and they are very affordable, I think they are a great value. Also talking about Motorcraft, their premium wiper blades are the best I have ever used. Typically most brands start streaking and chattering after 6 month in my climate. The current set of Motorcrafts on my daily driver are 2 years old and it sits outside all the time. Not any more expensive than other brands, but noticeably better quality.
