Went up to Scottsdale with my son and saw this outside in the dirt and dust. It was really in pretty good shape. Said to myself, "I bet this will go cheap". Skint right at the moment and already have the 3.8 S in the garage halfway done. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!! Next time . . . RIGHT!?

I got a nice 92 XJS V12 convertible last fall for $4500. Before that a nice 92 coupe for $3500. Before that a good 95 convertible for $3000. I know they go for big bucks on BaT but if you’re a patient Craigslist trawler, there’s still plenty of cheap metal out there. I know I’ll buy any nice XJS for less than $5000 just to store them up. It’s cheaper than paint one when I wear them out.

Ooof
thats insane. I am sure it will sell for no less than 10k.
as they say, change happens very slowly then suddenly. That’s what what’s happening with XJS pricing

It looks nice enough for an 85k miler, but there's nothing special about this XJS. Actually, taking off the chrome around the wheel wells could uncover some rust. Leaving them on detracts from the look and devalues the car.
14k is about right for a 50k miler in great shape---with an AJ16 engine. The better brakes alone on the '95.25 and later are worth it. And even a car with those specs would have to find the right buyer to get 14k.
He must have put something into the car; new tires? I'm sure he'd crush a 10k offer. And good for him. He's just doing what every franchised dealer does with used inventory every day. Or what any retailer does everyday. They buy stuff and mark it up to sell to someone else. He saw the value where/when nobody else did. I'd like to know what it ultimately sells for.
14k seems very full.

@Jagstuart kindly shared this link with me so as a newbie and new owner of said XJS from the B-J auction I thought I would chime in. I first saw this car during the B-J gala night at the start of the week and thought it looked great. Threw in one bid on proxibid and to my surprise was the winner. Had a great time picking it up from the auction (they treat buyers very nicely), suffered an immediate crisis when I parked outside the fence but could not release the parking brake. A very helpful phone call with British Automotive Repair confirmed that I am indeed an idiot, after which I had a most pleasant drive home even daring to open the roof without knowing if it might get stuck part way. Serious vibration at 70mph had me thinking about a front end rebuild but I also saw that the tires were 2007 vintage. New tires and it rolls serenely at any speed that can be described with two digits. Best trick is turning left from a stop light when you can floor it in sport mode and feel the LSD do its trick as the hood rises in front of you. Much low hanging cosmetic fruit was delicious to eat. Best one was simply topping up the convertible top hydraulic reservoir and getting a super fast and smooth action to the roof and windows. The icing on the cake is that my wife absolutely loves the car, which cannot be said for my 'leaky' 911 or my 'just plain old' '78 Benz. So yes it is for sale and I even dropped the price to what I think is a bargain, but clearly the market has not yet discovered how wonderful these cars are. We shall see and maybe I will have to hold on to it and suffer my wife's exaggerated amorousness a little longer
