yep still have the 2... I am planning on getting rid of the inlet regulator. I actually wanted to do it today but wasn’t sure the best route to go. Just bypass the regulator and connect the 2 hoses with a joiner or use one piece of hose? But the connections are actual screw connections not clamps. I’m starting to think it is a fueling issue not spark.

Bypassing the inlet regulator.....

Note item #10 and #1 in this illustration:

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/

Eliminate item #1 by simply disconnecting it from the fuel inlet pipe and the inlet regulator

Run a new hose from the inlet pipe directly to item #10. The #10 pipe has a knob at the end that you can slip your new over and secure with a clamp

3/8" ID hose as I recall

Cheers
DD

Looks like you have been chasing this for a little while - was going back through the forums chasing other stuff and found some of your previous posts

July 2017 looks like you had water in your fuel system - left overs from when you did your fuel tank?
August 2017 very dirty fuel from your sump tank.

January 2018 - having similar issues to what you are having now - so the title of this thread makes more sense to me now, also when you changed from 2 coils to 1

Interesting to read the XJS rev limiter thread #33 https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-153911/page2/ saying he found and fixed his issue

I am understanding your frustration just that little bit more

Cheers
Steve

yeah I saw that thread... he went back to 2 coils. I had the same problem with 2 and 1 coil. I even changed the coils when I had 2. I changed to 1 coil last year. I was wondering if the advance was bad cause it wasn’t snapping back. I pulled a distributor out of a junkyard xjs with good advance and vacuum... tossed it in and still the same. So tomorrow I’m bypassing the fpr/pulse regulator whatever and if that doesn’t help... I’m going to test fuel pressure. My only thought now is fuel or timing? I know when I checked timing if I recall it seemed a bit advanced at idle. I think I made a thread about that too. Almost like I couldn’t get the timing to 0..

Alright I’m in a positive place now. I did remove the inlet fpr that didn’t do anything... then I was sitting with it running and just looking around. I started revving it with the cap stand and opened it wide and it started idling funny, up and down. that was new... so I for whatever reason pushed the fuel enrichment switch and the car almost quit. Then it went back to idling weird. So I clicked it again and held it. It revved up and down faster. So I got in the car and revved it trying not to hit the enrichment switch and seemed like it slowly revved past 5k... then I mashed the throttle and instantly cut to the rev limiter feeling back at 5k. I’m thinking the fuel enrichment switch is junk!

I found an old thread on enrichment and it made me less positive. Was saying to test the throttle enrichment switch... at idle if you push the switch and it changes idle significantly that the switch is good. I guess it’s back to fuel pressure testing next
