What was your fix to get the instrument cluster turn signal indicators working with LED exterior turn signal bulbs? I have LEDS on the rear and the normal incandescent on the front (for now)

As I mentioned in another thread, the interior indicators will flash once then quit, even though all the exterior LED blinkers work properly and I hear the flasher clicking.

I could not find any electronic gizmo outside of the flasher unit on the wiring diagram (1988 car). Is there something in the flasher itself that doesn't activate the dash indicator lights if current draw is too little? If so, it would seem a less complicated flasher could be fitted.

On the brake lights, i simply removed the module in the console and made a simple plug in WYE harness to replace it. There are no requirement for warning lights to be operational here, heck, we don't even have mandatory car inspections at all in my state.

Mulling required but it dawns on me that the diodes might be packing in? These are in the harness for the indicator light in the instrument cluster

Where are these diodes physically located in the harness?

I am not an electronics engineer, so i am going to make semi-educated guess.

A diode is a one way valve, it stops current one way and allows current the other way, but it isn't an open faucet, there is still a resistance in the diode going the "open" way.

Reducing the wattage using an LED bulb, reduces the current, less watts with same voltage means less current.

I suspect reducing the amp draw creates less "back pressure" in the circuit, such that the initial in rush of current causes the indicator to flash once, but after that, there isn't enuf back pressure to overcome the diode resistance so the indicator does not light up.

Or something like that.

From memory (sedan versus XJS sometimes trips me up!) the diodes are just a few inches away from the cluster. Look for a lump under the harness tape.
