Lets Look into the Crystal Ball - 2015 XJS
#21
Wow you are very talented there! I like the first, but to be honest I think you're starting with the hardest first, the convertible is always going to be harder to make standout as an XJS because even in the original it was only ever 'half' an XJS because it lacked two of the quintessential items - buttresses and an orange segment rear glass. I'm not knocking the convertibles cause they are so nice, but personal preference and all, the coupes are the business! can't what to see your efforts on the coupe going by the convertible treatment they will be awesome.

Just don't incorporate the "Darth Vader" helmet mouthpiece design into the grills
like Audi and several other makers have done recently.
And, by the way, make the design one which you can gracefully
enter and exit the seats !
Not everyone can do a "Dukes of Hazard"/NASCAR mount through a window.
Make the design with grace in mind.

Seems like I've weathered the storm and I'm back at this. Let's get to the rendering stage this weekend. I'm working on Coupe proposals now. What are everyone's thoughts on the sail panels? I'm trying to incorporate negative space into the buttresses (I.E. SAAB PheoniX concept and Ford GT) Negative space is going to have a large place in the future of automotive design. Do you folks think the XJS is ready for it?

Ha! Came here just to check this thread (again). Thanks for the sketches!
- love the buttress detail. much like Ferrari 599
- looks like the lower spoiler / chin area juts out a bit far
- is the hood long enough?
Can't wait to see the full thing - just initial impressions.
Is this the field you're going into after school?

I am in the process of my imagining of a 2015 xjs, at least in terms of drivetrain and interior upgrades. My 93 flamenco red coupe is receiving a 3.5 ltr twin turbo 6 from Ford racing w/ 6 spd auto with hi flow intake intake and exhaust should produce around 410 hp/ 420 lb ft . Interior upgrades will include quilted leather tunnel and doors , alcantara dash and roof . I already have front swaybar/bushing upgrade and 5.1 audio system. Repaint of flamenco red w/ more pronounced metal flake. Some photos can be found at Bennett Coachworks facebook (Milwaukee)page and I hope to post some after my next visit .

Update: It seems I no longer have access to a scanner. The library here apparently lost theirs in the flood and my family one has kicked the bucket. If you can all wait until the 4th I'll be back in Detroit and will be able to finish the project (minus the renders) by then and use the school's to get 'em all up. If you'd like I could continue taking mediocre cell phone pictures of sketches, but unfortunately I can't properly render anything without a scanner. I'll let you all decide how I should proceed. So sorry for all the delays.

Got a few scanned in. The first one is the proposal I'm most fond of. My understanding was that you were looking for an updated XJS, not just a modern Jaguar Grand Tourer. Hope I did it justice. Coupes are to follow. Let me know which direction to develop further, or if you folks would rather I just take another crack at it in general. I've included an image of a facelift convertible for side-by-side comparison purposes. I figured I'd pull most of my inspiration from facelift cars as they indicate the direction the XJS was taking. Please keep in mind that these are just very rough preliminary sketches and that the direction that is selected will be more refined.
