LH Mirror goes Up/Down, not Left/Right

'91 XJS coupe, 110K miles.
Been working on all the little things my car needs the last few weekends, today while I had the LH door panel off to lubricate the window mechanism, also cleaned all the contacts for the courtesy light, speaker, and mirrors.
Got everything back together and noticed the LH mirror will adjust up and down from its control, but not left and right. I hear the motor working just fine, just no sideways motion at the mirror. The RH mirror works perfectly in all directions.
Is there a way to remove the mirror glass or otherwise disassemble the mirror to see what's going on behind it?

I had the same problem as you did. I removed the window mirror and looked in there and couldn't find anything. Then I replaced it, and, voila!, it worked. I didn't know how I had fixed it, but now looking at that bulletin, I know. It must have been off one or two of the connectors, and when I put it back, I got em all. When things like that happen, I never question. I just give a nod to the jag gods, and proceed.

Using the info in this thread, moved the mirror to it's lowest facing position using the control stalk, then reached in at the top and slowly but firmly pulled...and the mirror popped right out. It was still attached to the bottom "bead" (vertical control), but the left most (horizontal control) and center ones were free. Lubricated all moving parts (motor and bead arm pivots) with a bit of white lithium grease, lined up and pushed the mirror back into place, and all works 100% again.
Is this a great forum or what?!
