Looking at a XJS
I have a couple of quick questions and hoping someone might have a simple answer. I am going to look at a 94 XJS with a 4.0 I spoke to a guy on the phone and he is helping his mother sell it and it sounds like he
A) doesn't know about the car
B) seems a little disinterested in actually selling it
This one hits a few buttons for me as its a 94 4.0 Coupe and its Green (BRG? Brooklands?)
That being said, it has a "few Lights on"?? CEL? Red Brake? he didn't know.
On my 94 I can read CEL codes via the cluster but thats about it. The XJS is supposed to have the AJ16.
Is it OBD2 and does it have an OBD2 Port? I haven't found anything to confirm this other than it has the newer engine and I thought the XJ6 in 95 went OBD2 with the same engine.
If thats the case what is supported via the OBD2 connector? Trans? ABS? ect. Im going to look and drive the car on Wed (I hope) and will bring a long a few tools, flashlight and a scanner.
Im going to continue to investigate tonight/tomorrow but am hoping those in the know can chime in.
Thanks in advance
Joe

The 94 models have the AJ6 engines, not AJ16, although I would not be shocked if there was some mixup here.
I believe the trip computer would display the trouble codes. If it doesn't have one, and it was an option on the 6 so it's probable that it doesn't, it might be smart to find one on eBay or something. Someone with the AJ6 will chime in. The trip computers do plug right in, you'll need to buy the wood bezel that supports the computer over the clock, but those are easy to find. I think JDHT will still sell you one of you cannot find one.
