Default Lower Radiator Hose Replacement

I was quoted $400 to replace the lower radiator hose for my XJS. Just getting some input if anyone else here has paid to have it replaced and if the cost was similar. And before anyone asks, doing it myself isn't really an option with how busy I am currently. Appreciate any feedback!! Thanks!!

Never paid anyone to touch any of the Jags, I got trust issues, so be it.

Time required will depend on the orientation of the hose clamps. Access may require the fan shroud to be removes/pulled to teh side, for that access.

That is why I have stated a few hundred times, PAY ATTENTION TO CLAMP ORIENTATION, AS YOU WILL NEED TO GET TO THEM IN A FEW HOURS TIME,.

That V12 sense of humour will be mandatory of course.

The 3 hoses on the Cross Pipe will take longer, as the Compressor needs to raised for access.

Not a pleasant task. If the shop as worked on these cars before, they know. At today's labor rates I'm not especially surprised at the quote....nor a surcharge for filth and frustration. You might get a lower quote from a shop not familiar with the task....who will then regret that they didn't ask for more :-)

Grant's remarks about hose clamp orientation are spot on. It makes a difference for sure. Where the last guy situated the clamps, per the circumstances at the time, can make life a lot worse (or a lot easier) for the next guy a few years down the road. Often hoses are replaced when a lot of other stuff is removed with no thinking ahead as to how the clamps with be reached with all the other stuff in place. Ask me how I know.

Cheers
DD

I got trust issues too buy unfortunately its either trust the shop or not drive my jag at all the rest of the summer. Since I can't buy it, outsourcing is about the closest I'll ever get to buying time.

thanks for the input. It's a shop that is familiar with the car. Sounds like 400 might be a bargain based on the input

If you are talking about just the hose from the radiator bottom to the water pump inlet, the cost is far too high. If it includes the cross pipe hoses (three) it is very fair.
