Miami Vice 'Daytona' looks so similar to the XJS or is it just me?
Hi Just started Watching Miami Vice all over again, used to be the best Cop Show on TV and still seems just as fresh Today as it did in the 1980's
Where the first thing that struck me was how similar the Daytona looks to the XJS Convertible apart from the slope and grill of the Bonnet Hood, or else maybe I'm just imagineering?
And you've also got the 12 cyl without the 'Million Pound' Price Tag, so what is not to love!
Anyone else agree?

Well, the show didn't pay the price, as their Daytonas were fake, made from Corvettes.

Hi Steve
Well done for finding that but I couldn't find Autokrafts Website, just wondering if they are still making these?
Not sure where the money's coming from but I can dream
That's a pretty convincing Replica and since very few people have seen the real thing, then who is going to know

Hi Steve
You beat me to it, I was going to say exactly the same and wouldn't care either!
And at one stage was also going to get myself a DAX but I think you did right by getting a boat, as little by little they're taking our Freedom away and finding out what levers they can pull to try and control us, so probably the last thing that you need right now is a Cobra, or any fast Car for that matter, as the days of a drive in the Country are very fast melting away

To me, I think the McBurnie replica looks better than the original Ferrari 365GTB upon which it was based. I think it has slightly better proportions (as it was built to fit the C3 chassis). They had to add some flares to the fenders that don't appear on the real Ferrari, but I can live with those. Actually keep looking for one to buy but most of what I've had the opportunity are always poorly built kits and basically need to come completely apart and be redone all over again from scratch. There were only something like 300-400 built by McBurnie (I believe there were four or five different ones used during the filming of the first two seasons) and another 700-800 sold as kits. There were a few other manufacturers that sold kits as well and I saw an estimate somewhere that there were probably 1,500 to 2,000 total kits sold for the Corvette chassis. They were very popular in the 80s but all got cease and desist orders after Ferrari sued. That's another problem is that they did actually use a number of real Ferrari parts which Ferrari wouldn't sell to kit builders anymore after they caught on.
Supposedly, the EG AutoKraft kit that required an XJS donor was much more authentic and I read somewhere that there were only ten produced (cannot verify). There was actually one for sale locally here in Texas seems like a couple decades ago but I was not in a position to buy it at the time and so I didn't bother the seller to go kick the tires. I wish I had. I'd be curious to learn more just how much of the XJS was used.
