Mine was pretty easy to confirm, I just exposed the antenna inside the trunk and used my wife's flower watering can to pout over the antenna and watched it come in.

Yes, I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to check - I'd turn the radio on and inspect the grommet with the aerial up, and then try the water test if things still looked good.
