Default NADA value 😲

Ok so my daughter hit a deer last week in her Focus and my insurance company says they go by NADA value to decide about repairs or total loss. Needless to say they are totaling the Focus due to the initial damage estimate of 2900 not having been looked at by a shop yet so the price could have gone up. I went on NADA and looked at the focus and yeah, 2500-2900 value. Needless to say, my curiosity got the better of me and I started looking at my Jags! I was actually kinda surprised what they are saying! Here's a link for my 93 XJS convertible, and they only go by base options! Also my 97my XK8 is definitely lower in value, which is what I've seen around.

Interesting indeed. I checked for '85. Average retail $8850. Which is not too far from what Hagerty says the fair value of these cars is.

I was a bit surprised by original MSRP being reported lower than I expected. When I got my XJS, I inherited some paperwork from original owner, including some details of the deal. I believe it says MSRP was $45K, which appears what the first owner paid back then. I think my XJS was pretty "base" in terms of options. Though I am not sure. Maybe the dealer charged for "undercoating" and other add-ons to boost the base price?

The XJS was a '$145,000' dollar car in the late 80s if converted to todays inflation rate at full retail price. $8850 usd is high to me but its all relative, I've seen XJS cars go for 800usd but needing 10k in catch up work...all depends.

I think part of the shock is still in the "I used to see these for x amount a few years ago all the time" mindset. Kinda like how I remember seeing 1970s XKE convertibles going for 10-20k "not too long ago" in pristine condition

here is something to think about?

ALL cars are made of the same stuff, like iron ,steel, plastics, glass, rubber etc , they just come in different shapes and colors!
why should the values change????LOL.

I don't like seeing "Nada" and "XJS values" in the same sentence....

So... according to Adam Smith, an XJS probably is one of the most valuable cars in the world, considering the toil and trouble a man saves by disposing of it....

In 1996 I had to fight my insurance company to get $3500 for my wrecked 1986 XJS. Today these just aren’t cheap cars anymore. Too bad really. Good thing I have four
