Need help with check engine light on 1995 XJS
I started my 1995 XJS with the AJ16 motor and the check engine light is staying on. The engine starts fine and seems to run fine but my OBD2 scanner does not seem to communicate with the system.
I do have the OBD2 plug in port down under the dash next to the hood release lever and my OBD2 scanner plugs into this port but again does not seem to want to communicate with the system. Any chance my scanner will not communicate with this car for some reason or is it possible I have a blown fuse etc tied into this system?
Any insight or feed back on this would be greatly appreciated.

I suspected this but then I was not sure if a OBD-1 port would allow a OBD2 scanner to plug into it. I was thinking the OBD-1 port had a different shape. So will a OBD2 scanner plug into a OBD-1 port?

I have a CEN-TECH CAN OBDII CODE SCANNER. Says it works with all OBDII Compliant Vehicles Sold in the U.S. Since 1996. As I stated it does plug into the port so am I correct in assuming that a OBD2 scanner will plug into a OBD-1 port? Someone had told me that the OBD-1 port is different and will not allow the OBD2 scanner to plug into it but I am thinking that is not correct.
