Hey anyone have a good source for a steering rack for my 89 xjs. As with most things with the jag the task of replacing the rack bushings leads to finding the rack is leaking pretty good inside the boot on one side. Rebuilding seems to be a trick most prefer to avoid trying. I am not opposed to trying it if someone has some good documentation on a diy. Cardone has a rack but no one has it in stock. Rock auto has the option to send it to cardone but I’m afraid that may take a very long time although it is the most reasonable price wise.

I got one recently from Coventry West. Expensive, but they had stock and at the time no one else did. However, they routinely take over 30 days to refund core deposits once you return it, a fact they didn't bother to tell me when I ordered it. I had to call them twice to get the refund. You have to do everything over the phone since nothing is on their website. It does seem to be leak free so far.
Frankly, I wish I'd waited a few days and gotten one of the Maval rebuilds from Rock Auto. They go in and out of stock fairly routinely. Rock Auto is very quick about refunding cores. I believe Maval has a longer warranty than Coventry West. Cheaper too.

The Maval rack I have is doing very well.
Previously I had a reasonably priced rack from some rack rebuilder selling on Ebay. It failed quickly.
Cheers

I’d take Rack Doctor off this list:

I had not seen that thread.
I should have added that I was not recommending them and have not dealt with them other than emails or phone calls.

I recently rebuilt the entire front suspension, and I installed a Maval rack. I have a facelift model with the ZF sports rack. I checked both parts side by side and they were both the same. I also used polyurethane bushings for the rack only. Well, Im very happy with the sports feel back on my car. What Maval does is remove the ZF markings and they put their own for legal purposes. Maval is the way to go!

part# AAACCC6015 but I cant seem to find it on their site. Will call my mechanic for details.
The steering rack has a heavy steering feel versus my original, and feels like my XJR. Just be aware of the heavy steering feel being a part of this racks behavior. My original rack was worn and had lost that feel, it was leaking of course so pressure was being lost.
